THE FARM

UNIQUE LOCATION IN A NATURAL ENVIRONMENT

The El Tilo estate is located in the Villuercas-Ibores-Jara Geopark, in the north-east of the province of Cáceres, in the autonomous community of Extremadura (Spain).

Located at an altitude of 800 metres above sea level, the farm has 35 hectares of olive groves where 9,000 olive trees are grown, exclusively of the cornicabra variety. This variety is ideal for the mountain climate and the orography of the terrain.

The estate is called ‘el Tilo’ (the lime tree) because of a beautiful old specimen of this tree that has witnessed the growth of our olive trees for generations.

NATURAL ENVIRONMENT

In El Tilo there is also a part of wild nature that occupies about 30 hectares. Scrubland and a large number of protected trees such as junipers, holm oaks and cork oaks, typical of the Mediterranean forest, grow there, together with many other species of native flora and fauna.

On the banks of the river Ibor, which bathes the property, the wildlife is very rich, and the estate is frequently visited by deer, wild boar, foxes and even Iberian lynxes, a feline native to the peninsula, which until recently was on the verge of extinction.

SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE

At El Tilo we practice sustainable agriculture. All the energy for the development of the farm’s activities is obtained from solar panels.

In our olive groves we conserve the vegetation cover to prevent erosion, help in the retention of water and nutrients and favour the increase of organic matter in the soil, thus helping sustainable agriculture in Spain.
